How can I join?
Take the first step:
The Agricola Way...join us in four easy steps
- 1Get in touch
Use the form below to get in touch, and our membership officer will contact you to answer any questions you may have and arrange an informal visit to our lodge. - 2Meet our members
You'll meet our members in an informal atmosphere, usually in the bar at Castlegate House in the evening. You will be able to ask any questions you may have and join in the camaraderie. You won't be limited to just one visit, and you are welcome to join us at our other social events too. We are a very friendly bunch. - 3When you're ready
Simply fill out the 'P' Form requesting membership and we will invite you to an interview, and propose you in open lodge. - 4Once the date is set
You will be initiated into Freemasonry, and your masonic journey will begin with everyone's help from the lodge.
Come and meet the Brethren in an informal atmosphere.
At Agricola Lodge 1991, there is no pressure to join once you take the first step. We'll invite you to meet the brethren in the evening after our instruction lodges, usually the first and third Tuesdays of the month at around 8.15 pm. The evening will be informal, with a casual dress code in our bar at Castlegate House.
You'll have the opportunity to see how friendly we all are and ask as many questions as you like. During your first meeting, we will give you a tour of the lodge and make you feel very welcome and at ease.
You may want to learn why our members joined our Ancient and Honourable Fraternity; they will be happy to share their personal views. It's your chance to find out more from the guys who make up the brethren of Agricola Lodge. Some have been Freemasons for many years, others are relatively new and just starting their masonic journey. But all are here to help, with a smile over a few drinks, and even the odd dad joke or two.
More About Membership
Becoming a Freemason isn’t difficult; in fact, it is quite straightforward, and means you’ll be joining over 150,000 members throughout England and Wales, as well as Districts overseas.
Membership is open to people from all backgrounds, and the organisation aims to empower members to be the best they can be – it’s about building character, making new friendships, supporting members as individuals and helping them make a positive contribution to society.
There are more than 7,000 Lodges in the UK, and nearly 100 in Yorkshire North and East Ridings, with any man over the age of 18 eligible to join, irrespective of their race or religion.
Lodge meetings are typically held in two parts. The first involves administrative procedures, such as proposing and balloting for new members and receiving news about charitable fundraising.
The second part focuses on ceremonies, such as the admission of new members or the installation of the Master of the lodge and his officers.
True to the ethos of friendship and togetherness among Freemasons, meetings are also social events that provide an occasion for members to dine together. Outside the lodge, activities include community fundraising and volunteering, as well as a varied programme of social events.
Ready to take that First Step

Freemasons are encouraged to be open about their membership, and you may well have been approached by a friend or acquaintance who feels that you would enjoy Freemasonry if you knew a little more about it.
Even if you have no connections with Freemasonry, we would be delighted to speak with you.
If you are interested or require further information, please send us your contact details (you can use the contact form opposite for this, or write to us). Our Membership Officer will then contact you to discuss your interest.
